The Women’s Health and Exercise Lab at Penn State University, established in 2007, is under the direction of Dr. Mary Jane De Souza and Dr. Nancy Williams in the Department of Kinesiology. Our primary research focus is the interplay between energy intake and energy expenditure, reproductive function, and bone health in female athletes and recreationally active women.
The laboratory utilized methodological approaches that include urine and blood collection to measure various hormones in the body, measurements of resting metabolic rate, aerobic fitness testing, and measurements of bone density and structure.
